Our ATOMAS-DUO-HDMI encoding platform is being used as part of a sub-sea video system used in a study to understand the winter habits of Antarctica krill in the Southern Ocean.

For this project, the encoders are integrated into deep sea video moorings which are designed to go into deep water (up to 1500m),  be autonomous for a period of up to 12 months and record short 5-min video clips on the encoder’s onboard storage every 5 hours.

Since there was no possibility to offload the data during the study period, a large storage capacity was one of the top requirements of the project. The moorings are developed by an integration partner based in Europe and deployed by the Australian Antarctic Division.
